ESPERIENZA ACCADEMICA
Carmelo Gurnari è ricercatore in Ematologia presso il Dipartimento di Biomedicina e Prevenzione dell'Università di Roma Tor Vergata. Dopo essersi laureato presso la Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia di Pavia nel 2015 con una tesi in Ematologia/Oncologia Pediatrica, il Dott. Gurnari ha completato la sua formazione in Ematologia presso l'Università degli Studi di Roma, Tor Vergata. Ha poi deciso di continuare la sua formazione a Tor Vergata, ed è attualmente iscritto al corso di dottorato in "Immunologia, Medicina Molecolare e Biotecnologie Applicate". Allo stesso tempo, il Dr. Gurnari ha trascorso gli ultimi 3 anni lavorando presso il Dipartimento di Ematologia Traslazionale e Ricerca Oncologica della Cleveland Clinic (USA) dove si è concentrato sulla genomica delle sindromi da insufficienza midollare e delle neoplasie mieloidi. La sua esperienza di ricerca clinica e traslazionale comprende le neoplasie mieloidi con particolare attenzione alla leucemia promielocitica acuta, le sindromi mielodisplastiche, la sindrome VEXAS e la leucemia mieloide acuta. Il Dott. Gurnari è membro della European Hematology Association (EHA) per la quale è Mentor del Classical Master Class Program, e della European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), ed è attivamente coinvolto nelle attività della Trainee Committee e del Chronic Malignancies Working Party in qualità di vice-chair del sottocomitato MDS. È anche membro di altre società nazionali e internazionali come l'American Association for the Advancement of Science, la Società Italiana di Ematologia e di Ematologia Sperimentale e l'International Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria Interest Group. In questi anni, il Dr. Gurnari ha ricevuto diversi premi internazionali come il Tito Bastianello Young Investigator Award nella ricerca sulle MDS e l'ASH-IPIG Award per la ricerca sulla PNH (2020 e 2022). ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
Carmelo Gurnari is an Assistant Professor in Hematology at the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. After graduating from Pavia (Italy) medical school in 2015 with a thesis on Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Dr. Gurnari completed his training in Hematology at the University of Rome, Tor Vergata. He then decided to continue his education at Tor Vergata, and he is currently enrolled in a Ph.D program in "Immunology, Molecular Medicine and Applied Biotechnology". Simultaneously, Dr. Gurnari has spent the last 3 years working at the Department of Translational Hematology and Oncology Research of Cleveland Clinic (USA) where he has been focusing on the genomics of bone marrow failure disorders and myeloid neoplasia. His clinical and translational research expertise encompasses myeloid malignancies with a special focus on acute promyelocytic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, VEXAS, and acute myeloid leukemia. Dr. Gurnari is a member of the European Hematology Association (EHA) for which serves as a Mentor of the Classical Master Class Program, and of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), and he is actively involved in the activities of the Trainee Committee and Chronic Malignancies Working Party as vice-chair of the MDS subcommittee. He is also a member of other national and international societies such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Italian Hematology Association and the International Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria Interest Group. In these years, Dr. Gurnari has been awarded several international prizes such as the Tito Bastianello Young Investigator Award in MDS research and the ASH-IPIG Award for PNH research (2020 and 2022).
